  1. Congestive Heart Failure - Dr. Ravinder Singh Rao Congestive Heart Failure: Congestion refers to the trafficking or blocking of any passage, which leads to any malfunction. Such congestion in the heart leads to the blocking of vessels of the heart making difficulty in blood passage. The heart has to take extra pressure to pump blood thereby causing strain on itself and the lungs. The extra pressure on the heart forces the build-up of fluid inside the lungs causing difficulty in breathing. There are many possible causes of narrowed arteries supplying blood to the body's organs. Also, there is hypertension which can cause the sudden leaving of blood from the heart creating extra pressure on the muscles of the heart and vessels associated. Ruling out the actual cause can allow a heart expert to cure the disease. A cardiologist is one specialist who can rule out the possible root causes of heart ailments and can suggest proper treatment and precautionary measures. Also, read Congenital Heart Disease Causes of Congestive Heart Failure

  2. A weakened heart is always prone to damage or disease. Congestive heart failure can occur to one of the many causes that weaken the heart or disrupt its normal functioning. The major role of our heart is to pump blood regularly so that it is supplied regularly to the organs of our body. This supply of blood maintains the elevated oxygen levels and removal of poisonous substances from cells, thereby all the organs working efficiently. The actual cause of heart failure comes from the fact that the stiffness in the chambers of the heart makes it difficult for the pumping action done effectively. Over a while, this can reduce the efficiency of the heart to pump enough blood that can be supplied to the body and fulfilling its demand. Heart failure can be because of any of the following conditions: CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) Deposition of plaques or fatty deposits in the arteries can reduce the flow of blood because of the blockage and is the most common reason for congestive heart failure. Arrhythmia Abnormal rhythms or beatings of the heart, either making it slow or extra paced up can cause strain on the muscles of the heart leading to its failure. Myocarditis Inflammation in the cardiac walls can be due to any infection caused by viruses, for example, COVID-19. Hypertension One of the most common reasons that can lead to heart failure is high BP. Elevated levels of blood pressure make your heart work more than usual. Overactivity of the muscles of the heart over time can lead to the failure of the organ. Other possible reasons might include congenital heart diseases or inactivity/faulty activity of heart valves. Symptoms of Heart Failure Heart failure, sometimes also called congestive heart failure can either be acute or a chronic condition. It can develop over some time or can occur suddenly depending on the cause and can produce certain symptoms that help in diagnosis. The signs and symptoms include one or any of the following:

  3. ● ● ● ● ● Difficulty in breathing during any activity or lying down. Chest pain Loss of appetite Nausea and vomiting Weakness Coughing or increased mucus persistently. Prevention of Congestive Heart Failure | When to See a Doctor If you observe any of the above-listed symptoms, it is advisable to visit a cardiologist to figure out whether the vital organ is working efficiently. It can be a life-threatening condition if carelessly ignored. Our lifestyle adds up to the listed cause of the disease, therefore, certain precautionary measures can be taken care of, to prevent heart failure such as, eating a balanced diet or healthy food that excludes junk food, and keeping up physical activity so our heart remains active, reducing the amount of stress to reduce the strain and anxiety levels, and quit practices such as smoking and drinking.
