  2. Survey of Christianity Basics The bible has two division- the OT and NT. The Old Testament The OT is the larger of these two divisions, containing more than twice as much material as the NT. There are 39 individual OT books were written under the inspiration of the Lord across a period of many centuries

  3. Survey of Christianity Basics The OT contains various type of literature.; Law,History,poetry,prophecy and wisdom writings. The word testament means covenant. And Hebrew term for covenant is Berit. The OT was originally written In the Hebrew.

  4. Book of Law The first five books of the bible that was written ;also called the 5 books of Moses. This was appropriate because the commandments and law of God was the central theme. Moses recorded these laws in the book of Exodus,Leviticus,Numbers and Deuteronomy except Genesis which did not contain any specific laws. On the contrary it describe the covenant relationship that God Establish with his people

  5. Book of Law The first five books of the OT are also called as the Penteuch, the Greek term for five-volume. These five books take us from the creation of the physical world through the formation of the nation of Israel under the leadership of Moses. The word Genesis means origin or a source of the beginning. Later in the late 1600’s KJV was translated through the press in Vulgate in which it is the Latin language.

  6. Book of Law • There are 3 main points of in the Book of Genesis • The beginning of the physical world • The Beginning of God plans of salvations for the human race. • The beginning of the nation of the Israel • THEME- Creation and Sin and Salvation

Book of Law • Exodus- means to exit or depart. • THEME: The lord deliver his people from enslavement by the Egyptians. • Book of Exodus also tells how God took care of his people while they wandered in the wilderness the area around Mount Sinai • Though Moses God also delivered the Ten Commandments and other laws to guide their lives as His special people. The Key word is REDEMPTION

  8. Book of Law Book of Leviticus- means preacher . In the book of Exodus, God gave his people the moral law instructions for moral and ethical behavior. This book contains his ceremonial law on how to observe the rituals that were considered important acts of worships. God Institutes the ceremonial law to govern the life of his people. Leviticus describes the formal establishment of the priesthood, at God’s command.

  9. Book of Law The tribe of Levi, some were preachers, some were musicians and architects. The priest stayed at the altar in the tabernacle then later the temple where there presents their offering to God. Various types of sacrificial offerings: burnt offering, grain, offering, peace offering, sin offering, and guilt or trespass offering and blood offering. THEME: Holiness

  10. Book of Law Numbers- (census) of the Israelites that were commanded by the Lord in chapters 1 and 26. The book traces the aimless wanderings of the Israelites in the wilderness during a period of more than Forty years. Why this Long Delay? 600,000 able – bodies for 20 years THEME: God correcting wrath upon his own disobedient people.

  11. Book of the Law Deuteronomy- (second law) which derives from the Greek word Deuteronomion, it comes from Septuagint of Deut.,17:18, it consists of different speeches from Moses to the people. Moses wanted to make sure that people remained loyal to the Lord and his commandments as they prepare to go to the promise land. Moses Farwell speech before prior to his death THEME: Moses restates Gods Law for the Israelites before they enter the promise land
