  1. Covid New Variant Symptoms & Precautions in Adults - Dr. Nishtha Singh Covid New Variant: Covid-19 caused massive destruction to humanity as it turned out to be a pandemic reaching all parts of the world, causing suffering to humankind. It is caused by SARS-CoV-2, a virus belonging to the family of viruses causing diseases like SARS and MERS, and can be life-threatening to us. Covid new variants have evolved from the omicron variants due to rapid mutations, and the virus tries to establish itself in the population after that. The most recent variant of covid-19 in India in 2022 is the XBB variant which is actually a sub-variant of BA.2.10.1 and BA.2.75, hence is not a new variant of coronavirus but is from the same lineage. WHO has not given any statistics to derive a clear picture of the severity of the current position of the fourth wave. The world again is under the menace from the omicron variant, and undoubtedly, omicron has outperformed all other variants. Symptoms of variant XBB 1.5 are likely similar to cold-like, but there is no clear picture of the same. Possible symptoms include: ● Runny nose ● Chest congestion

  2. ● Headache ● Fever How is Covid New Variant spreading so fast? Being a smaller virus, it is easy for it to escape into the air infecting many easily. It is released from the infected person when the patient cough or sneezes and droplets are secreted. These droplets when inhaled infect the others. Another reason why it is spreading and causing devastation is because of its mutations. COVID-19 in India has mutated rapidly in the last couple of years. Out of many mutations, some were harmless but others that rapidly started spreading became the ‘virus of concern’. It is those harmful mutations that are, till date, making the disease well-established in our communities. Also Read: Is Asthma Considered Immunocompromised by COVID Vaccine? Symptoms of Covid-19 in India Signs and symptoms of coronavirus latest variant begin to appear 2-14 days from the day of infection, but the symptoms are gradual and intensify as the virus spreads. It can easily be misunderstood as a normal cold because the earliest symptom includes: ● Fever ● Cough ● Headaches But the earliest sign, which may not be present in all, but if present, indicates the infection from COVID's new variant is loss of smell and taste. Other symptoms include: ● Vomiting ● Diarrhoea ● Muscle aches ● Running nose ● Chest pain ● Chills of fever ● Persistent fever ● Difficulty while breathing

  3. The severity of the disease depends on the immunity of a person. Some people might not have any symptoms at all but carry the disease to others, referred to as asymptomatic patients. Precautions from Covid New Variant Dr. Nishtha Singh, The Best Lung Specialist in Jaipur suggests taking certain precautions that can prevent us from this potentially life-threatening disease. Although post-vaccination death rates have fallen to rare, the intensity with which it spreads is still an issue. Also, Covid new variant can be a risk to the ones with vaccinated as well. The following precautions are needed to be taken care of to reduce the risk of getting infected. ● Cover your mouth and nose using a mask to prevent the virus from entering the respiratory system. ● Avoid getting in close contact with the ones infected with the virus. ● Get vaccinated to build up immunity against the virus since medicines are ineffective against viral diseases. ● Avoid crowded places and get in close contact with people. ● Keep alcohol-based sanitizers with you. Sanitize often. Especially after touching any objects. ● Take warm liquids to keep your throat moist and heal the cells damaged due to infection. ● Stay isolated if you are infected to prevent others from being infected with the virus. ● Take a vitamin C-rich diet to increase immune responses. ● Eat a balanced diet to fulfill the body’s requirement for nutrients. ● Avoid touching your nose, eyes, and lips to prevent the virus from entering your respiratory tract.
