  2. 検索課題 • ジョン・ワイルダー・テューキー(John WilderTukey)は ビット(bit)という用語を、どこで発表したのか。

  3. テューキーについて • 1915年　アメリカで誕生 • 1936年　ブラウン大学で化学の学士号・博士号取得 • 1937年　プリンストン大学で数学の博士号取得 • 1982年　IEEE栄誉賞受賞 • 1985年　現役引退 • 2000年　死去

  4. “bit”とは “bit”=“binary digit”の略であり、ほとんどのデジタルコンピュータが扱うデータの最小単位である。“bit”は2進数で、1bitの中身は0か1のどちらかで、1bitは2つのことしか表せない。なのでパソコンでは、“bit”8つを1バイト(byte)として扱う。

  5. 初めて提唱された場所 • “bit”という用語が初めて印刷物に載ったのは、1948年クロード・シャノンの論文「通信の数学理論(A Mathematical Theory of Communication , Bell System Technical Journal , July 1948)」である。 • 初めてテューキーが、“bit”という用語を使ったのは、1947年1月9日にベル研究所での議論の中である。そのことは当時の同僚の証言や、内部メモで確かめられていて、1984年の「IEEE計算の歴史年報」でも確かめられる。
