Some discussion questions • Computer resources • How much more is needed by EMC? • Cost/benefits • Do we support Tom’s proposal for increased funding for computer resources? • What are the roles of the different members of the weather enterprise? (Private, government, research, education) • What is the role of the DTC – in DA/initial conditions, Physics, Post-processing, Verification tools? • Does NOMADS offer adequate storage and accessibility for model output to make data available for potential users? (Raw ensembles, post-processed, etc.)

More questions… • Is the bottom-up approach appropriate? • When and how do we bring users into the discussion? • What is a reasonable resolution goal? • How do we keep the scientific capabilities up-to-date with the resolution? • Multi-model vs. single model approach • Storing raw forecasts • Observations…

  4. More questions… • Real-time vs. Non-real-time testing • Benefits and costs • Timing for getting all of this done • NextGen constraints • Much research needed on communication. This was also a recommendation of the NRC report • How do we make this a funding priority rather than an after-thought??
