Rules for Division (the next slide has more detailed info) Simplifying The values must be EXACTLY the same if they are to be crossed out. For example: , , Rationalizing the Denominator The denominator should NOT contain a radical expression. In order to eliminate the radical, you must multiply both the numerator (top) and denominator (bottom) by the radical expression. Three Rules for Simplifying Radical Expressions 1) Leave no pairs in a radicand. 2) Leave no fractions or decimals in a radical. 3) Leave no radicals in a denominator (bottom).
