  2. Learning outcomes • You will be able to describe how to cut to the beat in music videos • You will be able to describe how artists lip sync in music videos

  3. What songs are made up of? Its all just cheesecake • The base of the cheesecake: Is made up of the beat, you need this in your song if you don’t have a beat the song will fall apart. The beat is usually made up of base and drums. • Second layer: The rhythm, is normally made of guitar strings or keyboard instrumentals. • Top layer: This is your flavour section and normally contains a melody or vocals.

  4. The beat is the heartbeat of a song

  5. How do I edit a music video?Answer: There is not always a right or wrong answer, but there are techniques that professionals and amateurs use to editor music videos.

  6. Editing a musical beat: Technique- cutting to a beat.

  7. Firestarter

  8. Cut to the beat vs. against the beat • You don’t have to cut on every single beat i.e. the White Stripes video was an obvious music video which cut to the beat. Cutting to the beat is a safe bet, but often people can cut half a second before or after and it does not have to be on every beat. • The key thing to editing is it needs to visually look right, if its too clinical much then this can also look dull and boring and lyrics are also another important part of the process.

  9. Lip syncing and music videos • What is lip syncing? • Other than music videos where else do we see artists lip sync and why?
