  4. Nicotine is a stimulant as it raises alertness. It is however VERY addictive.

  5. Alcohol and performance Often used as a sedative in sport (has a calming effect) • It can cause a great safety risk as it slows reaction times and impairs judgement and balance. • It also increases urine production therefore causing dehydration. • Long term effects include liver and kidney damage

  6. Socially acceptable Drug prescribed by a doctor or that can bought over the counter e.g. paracetamol and aspirin. • Socially unacceptable Illegal drugs e.g. heroin, cocaine, cannibis.
