Kabul Grape Farmers Want Trellising • Assessment 13OCT12 • Traditional grape growing with fruit close to the soil is low yielding and prone to disease losses. • Some Dehsabz district growers winter cover vines with dried vegetation and dirt clods. • MAIL, with USAID and NGO assistance, has demonstrated in last 8 years trellising doubles grape yield and quality. • MAIL goal to increase horticultural production by 20%, but lacks capacity to drive improvements, eg trellis distribution. • Taking Action • TF Centurion Commander approved go-ahead to develop capacity building CERP trellis project- 20OCT12. • Seeking input from grape stakeholders. 20-OCT-12
