    11. Silva Porto (1850/1893) It was a Portuguese naturalist painter. Born in Porto, he studied there under João António Correia and T. de Furtado, then continued his studies in Paris and Rome. They became followers of the naturalist Barbizon School, and brought the new school of painting to Portugal, when they returned in 1879. Silva Porto become one of the most acclaimed naturalist painters of his generation.

    16. José Malhoa (1855-1933) José Vital Branco Malhoa was born in 1855 in Caldas da Rainha and died in 1933. His background was humble and he had to fight hard to achieve recognition during his life.

    19. Carlos Reis (1863/1940) A painter of portraits and figurative subjects. He quickly achieved fame after studying in Lisbon and then after in Paris. He was awarded many prizes in his lifetime and achieved a position of influence in the world of art in Lisbon. This was a school which thought that painting should be connected in the open, using rural subjects.

    23. Tomás José da Anunciação (1818/1879) He belonged to the first generation of romantic artists in Portugal and specialized in paintings of landscapes and animals. From 1837 until 1844 he attended the Academia de Belas-Artes in Lisbon.
