  3. Stronger Together - Accommodation • 145 additional accommodation places for Metro South Region between 2008/09 and 2010/11 • This includes • Other Specialist Support • Criminal Justice • Leaving Care • Independent Living in Drop In Support services

Stronger Together - Accommodation • Properties planned to be available for the new services from March/April 2010 • Purchasing process for service providers now commencing, using the Pre-Qualified Panel process. • All eligible providers have been invited to an information session on 29 January 2010.

Performance and Quality Improvement • The PQI team is currently finalising outstanding action plans arising from the Integrated Monitoring Framework (IMF) service reviews. • 2008/09 acquittals are now arriving at the region and are being processed. • Project Officers and the new Minimum Data Set project worker have been working with organisations to improve reporting. • Significant improvement of reporting in the quarter ending September 2009 – thank you.

Home Care Update: 2009 Data • 89,000 hours per month • 10,541 clients currently in the Metro South region • Metro South Region the largest Home Care provider in NSW • Around 27% of all hours of service delivery in NSW • Metro South Region of Home Care delivers around 33% more services than its nearest counterpart in NSW

Home Care Update: 2009 Data • Metro South Home Care Region also  auspice the following separately funded projects: • Community Options in the Canterbury LGA • Multicultural Respite Network in the Bankstown LGA • Community Connect Respite South West Sydney LPA • Ageing Parent Carers in the Bankstown and Fairfield LGA • Home Maintenance and Modification in Liverpool and Wingecarribie LGA's • Lawn Mowing in Liverpool, Bankstown, Fairfield and Wingecarribie LGA's • Primary and Secondary Allied Health Services to the Boarding House Residents in the Inner West LPA and Miller in South West Sydney LPA • Carers Support Project in the Inner West LPA

  12. Aboriginal Employment Strategy • The Metro South Aboriginal employment strategy was agreed in early 2009 and to date: • 7 Indigenous cadets who are university students currently studying social work, physiotherapy and speech therapy started with our Community Service Teams in June 2009; • 15 Aboriginal RSWs currently undertaking Certificate III in Disability and are supported by a cultural mentor; • 6 Aboriginal Case Managers now work in Community Support Teams; • Existing Aboriginal staff trained as buddies to support new staff to the Region.

  13. NSW Jumpstart Cadet program • 7 'Under 25' Jumpstart Cadets across the region undertaking Assistant in Nursing and Administration Officer roles • Cadets work full time for 12 months whilst completing Certificate qualifications. • Workplace mentors are provided to support the completion of the cadetship

  14. Funding Management System Update • The December 2009 communication explaining the Funding Management System (FMS) information sheet is available on the Service Provider Portal in the documents section • The information sheet outlines the timeframes and improvements that will happen when the FMS goes online • These improvements include integration between systems, access to more information and itemised payment information • Implementation is anticipated in late 2010 • Future FMS updates will be available through the Service Provider Portal.

  15. Block Funded Day Programs • Metro South staff have been meeting with providers to explore options to assist in vacancy management of ‘block-funded’ day programs. • We are also engaging with ADHC’s Central Office and NDS in the development of policies and guidelines. • Consultation will continue prior to any changes being proposed to providers.

Metro South Events • Upcoming Regional Behaviour Intervention Team (RBIT)/NGO Clinical Forums • General themes for this year are: • Key issues for Young People - homelessness, young offenders, sexuality • Legal issues - risk vs quality of life, role of public guardian, restricted practices • Different types of intervention • Preventing Burnout • Secondary Clients • February 23rd and April 27th are the first forum dates • Burwood RSL Club, 9:30- 1:30 pm • Contact RBIT on 9334 -3700 for more information

  18. STAFFING UPDATE • Julie Brown has been appointed as the Metro South Regional Manager, Home Care and has commenced in the role. • Metro South Deputy Regional Director, Chris Chippendale, has accepted a position as Executive Director, Community Care, in ADHC’s Central Office, from 1 February 2010 • Janelle Chapman will act as Deputy Regional Director from 1 February 2010.
