  4. Where are they now?

  5. How many schools should I apply to? • “Dream School” • Likely—a pretty good chance of getting in • Safety—a sure thing for admission and cost • Ultimately, deciding how many schools to apply to is a family decision. However, counselors generally recommend to consider applying to one to two schools in each category.

  6. Early Action vs. Early Decision • Both good ideas if you really like a particular school • Early Decision is BINDING, must withdraw other applications if accepted • Early Action is not binding, and you can apply early to various schools • All schools policies may vary so you must research!

  7. Applying to College-The Process • The Application • Goes digital • Application Fees • Fill out Lunch Application for waivers • Transcripts • See Ms. Trujillo in Main Office • Letter of Recommendation • Managebac • College Visits/Financial Planning • Check with Mrs. Stack (CAP Adviser)

  8. Common Application (and other online apps) • Request me as your counselor: • Diana Van Wyk • dvanwyk@dadeschools.net • PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY OTHER VARIATION OF MY NAME!

  9. Managebac and Parents • To create your account, please see the station set up in the lobby. You will be asked for: • Student E-mail (or Name) • Parent First Name • Parent Last Name • Parent E-mail

  12. CGHS College Fair • September 30th in the GYM • 81 Colleges/Universities including all the state schools • Passes will be given out September 25-27 in front of the New Building before school and at lunch time • Check the CAP webpage for the Excel spreadsheet with all of the colleges attending

  13. IB Test Registration • Deadline: October 15 • Will be completed through TOK2 • Commitment to test schedule/EE topic • Verification will be sent home for signatures • If financial penalties are incurred due to an error on the student’s part, a financial obligation will be imposed

  15. Testing Blues • Be supportive at home • Every point counts (check with prospective colleges for IB credit equivalents) • 12 points must be earned in the HL subject groups • 12 points must be earned in the SL subject groups • If a student tested last year and earned less than a 4-BONUS points from EE/CAS/TOK are essential! (Or if there is a shaky SL this year)
