Do’s & Don’ts of your Septic System • Conserve Water • Drain the Bath-Water slowly by tilting the plug • Never pour oils, fats or grease down the sink • Don’t flush non-biodegradables ie wet-wipes & pads • Avoid Waste Disposals • Never put paints, solvents or pesticides in the tank • Plant trees and shrubs away from the tank and soak field • Divert storm-water runoff away from the soak field • Install a Riser & Lid for ease of access to the tank • Don’t ever put sticks down the mushroom vent • Call a Serviceman if there is a blockage • Service the tank every two to three years

  11. The Septic Tank Mushroom The Mushroom vents the drain from the home to the tank only. It is NOT for cleaning the tank. Never have your tank cleaned through the mushroom. This removes only water leaving solids/sludge in the tank. If your tank has been “cleaned” by going through the mushroom, you need to have it cleaned properly through the lid to avoid damage to your soakage.
