If you plant watermelon seeds in the spring, you _____ fresh watermelon in the fall. A. eat B. would eat C. have eaten D. will be eating • My uncle is a professor. He ______ in a factory for ten years. • Has worked B. worked • C. had worked D. was working

Many lifestyle patterns do such __ great harm to health that they actually speed up __weakening of the human body. A. a; / B. /; the C. a; the D. /; /

Somebody had thought 27 of me to bring me a gift. A. highly B. little C. poorly D. enough

  10. 42. In his mother's eyes, the writer __ . A. was a born artist B. always caused trouble C. was a problem solver D. worked very hard

  19. Hello, everyone. It’s a great honor for me to stand here, sharing with you a touching story. A little girl was cast down to learn that she would spend a Christmas without gifts due to lack of money. However, it never occurred to her that three women would show upabruptly, handing over a doll as her present, which came as a great relief to her. She would not be a target of mockery just because she was empty-handed. The experience struck a sense of importance into her heart. When she turned adult, she looked forward to creating the same feeling she experienced from that unforgettable Christmas for as many children as she could possibly reach. And she did it.

  20. Altogether she gathered 25 orphans at the Christmas party. Each of them had access to special presents carrying their names. Apparently, the children were delighted and impressed not only by toys but also by a sense of importance. I’m in favor of the view that it’s of vital importance to let kids know they are not forgotten. In other words, each of them is equally important and occupies a special place in someone’s heart. To be straightforward, a kid is bound to feel upset, if he has no Christmas gifts. After all, any gift you receive, no matter how small it is, will brighten up your day. So why not set out to do something for special children next Christmas? By Dong Xinxin (Class 4)

  21. By Bao Fangting Class 3 Have you ever had the experience of failing to live up to your parents’ expectations? I have, and I am suffering from it now. Last term, my parents bought an MP4 for me on my birthday. They told me the MP4 was intended to help me with English although I was allowed to listen to some light music to relax myself once in a while. But they made it clear that I was strictly forbidden to read e-books on it. On seeing the gift I had been longing for, I was overjoyed and immediately vowed that I would make good use of it and would not let them down.

  22. Gradually, however, I couldn’t resist the temptation of downloading e-books and reading them in secret, which lasted quite a while and consequently affected my study. Worse still, I even told lies when Mom doubted whether the MP4 was to blame for my poor grades. One day I was caught reading e-books on MP4 and it was directly taken away. I argued, thinking Mom made a fuss about a trifle. But Mom ignored my complaint. Now reflecting on it, I realize that Mom is right. Trust, like some other valuable things in life, once gone, is hard to win back. I feel ashamed of myself for breaking my promise and abusing my parents’ trust. Today, I chose to admit my mistake in front of you because I’ve realized the importance of credit and honesty in our life. At the same time, I’m grateful for having a strict mother, who cares as much about her child’s quality as her grades

  23. As everyone knows, our school’s annual sports meeting is around the corner. It’s a great event for every one of us. Now I’m calling on you to take an active part in it. There’s no denying that studies and grades are our primary concern for students of senior III. Yet I’d like to remind you that health is as important as, if not more important than, grades. Without good health we can do nothing, let alone get on well with our studies. How wise of you if you set aside some time every day to take regular exercise to build up your bodies no matter how busy you are!

  24. Besides, sports meeting provides us with a precious opportunity to strengthen our class unity. Our class has established a reputation for our unity and excellence in studies and extracurricular activities. Now it’ll be our last chance to show our spirit to others. So let’s participate in the sports meeting for our class’s sake. What’s more, sports meeting will be such great fun that it will enrich our life experience and provide us with precious memories to treasure later in our life. For students of senior III, who are under great pressure, don’t you think it a good idea to relax ourselves from piles of books and exercises? I bet you’ll be refreshed, both physically and mentally, after you run or jump for a while. Don’t worry about medals. How many medals we’ll get isn’t important. It’s participation that matters.

  25. My dear fellows, Class 3 needs you and your efforts. Together, every individual will make a real difference. Come on! Don’t hesitate to join me in the coming sports meet, the last school sports meet in our high school life!

  29. Nowadays, there is a growing tendency for parents to send their children to register and attend various art courses, such as dancing, calligraphy and musical instruments training, etc. In our study, the attitudes of people towards this phenomenon vary from person to person. Some people maintain that these extra curricula are of great necessity and benefits to students. According to our survey on primary and secondary schools, the students who take after-class courses tend to perform better than those who don’t. Moreover, the former can have an all-round development by acquiring a variety of knowledge and skills which are not taught in their schools.

  30. On the contrary, others argue that these courses would cause overload on students and thus object to this practice. They worry that students might not have adequate time to take rest and review what they have learned in school. As a high school student, I have ever participated in some art courses, such as singing and dancing classes, which prove beneficial for my physical and mental state. Therefore, as far as I’m concerned, taking some extra curriculum courses properly is significant to students’ development in the long run.

参考词汇: (参考词汇仅供参考,不一定全部用上) be located…; cover an area of…; be home to…; Among the… are…; some… others…; arouse the greatest appreciation; be rewarded by…; spectacular; vary from…to…; explore; be well worth a visit

  32. Located in the southeast of Zhejiang Province, 300 km south of Shanghai is my hometown—Wenling, which covers an area of 920 square kilometers. The weather here is so pleasant—neither too cold in winter nor too hot in summer. It is home to a diversity of beautiful scenery, attracting visitors from all over the country. Among them are spectacular mountains and the only natural cave available as a concert hall in Asia. However, the one that arouses the greatest appreciation is Shitang Town. It is famous for its unique stone culture with stone houses, stone roads and lanes and steps all made of stone. Some come here to explore the fantastic local culture while others relax themselves in this peaceful place.

  33. Besides, you’ll be rewarded by the picturesque view in the Forest Park, blue seas and golden beaches once you set foot on the land here. For food lovers, the traditional local food and various sea food will be a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. In addition, it is very convenient for you to travel to Wenling. Either a train, a bus or a plane will bring you right here. Only when you are here will you know that the city is really well worth a visit.

  35. Louis Armstrong had two famous nicknames. Some people called him Bagamo. They said his mouth looked like a large bag. Musicians often called him Pops, as a sign of respect for his influence on the world of music. Born in 1901, in New Orleans, he grew up poor, but lived among great musicians. Jazz was invented in the city a few years before his birth. Armstrong often said, “Jazz and I grew up together.” Armstrong showed a great talent for music when he was taught to play the cornet at a boy’s home. In his late teens, Armstrong began to live the life of a musician. He played in parades, clubs, and on the streamboats that travelled on the Mississippi River. At that time, New Orleans was famous for the new music of jazz and was home to many great musicians.

  36. Armstrong learned from the older musicians and soon became respected as their equal. In 1022 he went to Chicago. There, the tale of Louis Armstrong began. From then until the end of his life, Armstrong was celebrated and loved wherever he went. Armstrong had no equal when it came to playing the American popular song. His cornet playing had a deep humanity and warmth that caused many listeners to say, “Listening to Pops just makes you feel good all over.” He was the father of the jazz style and also one of the best-known and most admired people in the world. His death, on July 6, 1971, was headline news around the world.

  39. Many cities around the world today are heavily polluted. Careless methods of production and lack of consumer demand for environment friendly products have contributed to the pollution problem. One result is that millions of tons of glass, paper, plastic, and metal containers are produced, and these are difficult ot get rid of. However, today, more and more consumers are choosing “green” and demanding that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions like these: “Will this shampoo damage the environment?” “Can this metal container be reused or can it only be used once?”

  40. A recent study showed that two out of five adults now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it. This means that companies must now change the way they make and sell their products to make sure that they are “green”, that is, friendly to the environment. Only a few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in supermarkes, but now there are hundreds. Some supermarket products carry label to show that the product is green. Some companies have made the manufacturing of clean and safe products their main selling point and empasize it in their advertising. The concern for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business.

  41. No longer will the public accept the old attitude of “Buy it, use it, throw it away, and forget it.” The public pressure is on, and gradually business is cleaning up its act. Key words and topic sentences: green products; environment, safe/ friendly More and more consumers are choosing “green” and demanding that the products they buy should be safe for the environment Main idea: Forced/Driven by consumer demand, companies have to think about the way they do business and produce products that are safe for the environment.

  44. London (Rertuers)—Organic fruit delivered right to the doorstep. That’s what Gabriel Gold prefers, and he is willing to pay for it. If this is not possible, the 26-year-old computer technician will spend the extra money at the supermarket to buy organic food. “Organic produce is always better,” Gold said. “The food is free of pesticide, and you are generally supporting family farms instead of large farms. And more often than not it is locally grown and seasonal, so it is more tasty.” Gold is one of a growing number of shoppers buying into the organic trend, and supermarkets across Britain are counting on more like him as they grow their organic food business. But how many shoppers really know what they are getting, and why are they willing to pay a higher price for organic produce?

  45. Market research shows that Gold and others who buy organic food can generally give clear reasons for their preferences—but their knowledge of organic food is far from complete. For example, small amounts of pesticides can be used on organic products. And about three quarters of organic food in Britain is not local but imported to meet growing demand. “The demand for organic food is increasing by about one third every year, so it is a very fast-growing market,” said Sue Flock, a specialist in this like of business. Key words: organic trend; reasons; knowledge/fact
