Project 2010 User Interface

Different from previous versions of Project

Has adopted the Fluent (or ribbon) interface of Office 2007 applications

Project 2010 User Interface (cont)

The following are some major parts of the Interface:

Quick Access Bar – area for adding frequently used commands

Tabs & active ribbon – replace the pull down menus and toolbars of previous versions

Groups – collections of related commands – each ribbon divided into multiple groups

Commands – specific features used to control Project

View Label – along left side of active view

View Shortcuts – used to quickly switch between active views

Zoom slider – zooms active view in or out

Status bar – displays important details

The Backstage – Managing Files and Setting Options

To get to Backstage view - click on File tab

Features in the Backstage view include:

Save, Save As, Open and Close – file management commands

Info – provides access to Organizer

Recent – displays last few project files that have been opened

New – options of creating new project file

Print – options for printing Project files

Save & Send – options for attaching Project file to e-mail message etc

Help – online help etc

Options – displays Project Options dialog box

Exit – close Project

The Ribbon and Tabs

Lets look at the purpose of the tabs in Project 2010

Tasks and Resources tabs – relate to info frequently used in project

Project tab – contains commands that apply to entire project plan

View tab – helps control what is seen in Project window and how info appears

Format tab – commands displayed vary depending on active view or item selected

Views in Project

The working space in Project is called a view.

Views are used to enter, edit, analyze, and display project info.

Views generally focus on either task or resource info.

Views can be opened in several ways:

From the View tab and ribbon

From the View Shortcut buttons

Some new views in 2010 include Timeline view
