  8. 1.运用常识、背景知识

  9. 2.预测 阅读就是一个不断预测的过程。

  10. 利用开头预测 For almost two months Dominic York, a 23-year-old hairdresser, wandered about hospitals at night, wearing a white coat and pretending he was a doctor. Yesterday he proudly claimed in court that despite his complete lack of medical experience or qualifications, he had saved several people's lives. 14. P1. With the growth of the Internet in the past few years, the Internet is playing an ever-increasing role in shaping and changing human relations. Many Internet users have met online friends or know of a friend who was involved in an online relation. Online relationships, however, still suffer from several drawbacks due to a general level of lack of trust and respect. Here is some advice to online chatters on how to avoid disappointment and have a healthy online relationship from the beginning.

  15. P2. At the beginning of each chat session with another person, be whom you are and not whom you would not like to be. Once you enter into a series of lies to project another personality, you will put this whole relation at risk, and you might be unable to correct what you have created and regret the fact that you have lied in the first place.

  16. P3. You have to be clear whether physical attraction is important to you or not, and make the person you're talking to aware of that fact. It is useless to fall in love with a screen name, because when the moment to meet that person comes, it will be a moment of great pain for you and the person you thought you loved.

  17. P4. The person you are chatting with does not know you; your mission is to gain their acceptance or at least their attention with a couple of sentences in a limited time. This is why some small words, such as "would you like...?", "May I ask...?", "Please..." and "Thank you..." can play a major role.

  18. P5. If you feel that you are not getting a positive feedback from the person you are talking to, just move on. Instead of wasting your time with someone who is not suitable for you, go to find what you are looking for.

  19. P6. Remember that the majority of chatters are people like you. If you are looking for a true friend, you should be willing to open the door. After all, most of the people online are not more dangerous than some people you see in the streets, parks, bars or restaurants.

  20. 80. Paragraph 2 A. Be polite 81. Paragraph 3 B. Have an amount of trust 82. Paragraph 4 C. Be honest 83. Paragraph 5 D. Take appearance into consideration 84. Paragraph 6 E. Don't over insist F. Give compliments

1. they were pleased at my success and went to bed happy, but I went to my room and felt disconsolate. 2. Besides writing clear sentences, we also try to write concise sentences, in other words, we do not want our sentences to be long and wordy. 3. The life in the country was so monotonous that I soon got fed up with it.

  25. C. 利用上下文 Zip was stopped during the war and only after the war did it become popular. What a difference it has made to our lives. It keeps people at home much more. It has made the remote parts of the world more real to us. Photographs show a country, but only zip makes us feel that a foreign country is real. Perhaps the sufferers from zip are the notable people, who, as they step out of an aeroplane, have to face the battery of zip cameras and know that every movement, every gesture will be seen by millions of people. Zip means A. cinema B. photography C. television D. telephones

  26. There was a small, plump woman, all dressed up--huge hat, dress with pink butterflies, long white gloves. She also had a shooting-stick. But because she was so plump, when she sat on the stick it went deep into the ground and she couldn't pull it out. She tugged and tugged, tears in her eyes. When the final tug brought it out, she crashed with it to the ground.

  27. 2004 (C) Without examinations, employers will look for employees from the highly respected schools and from families known to them -- a form of favouritism will replace equality. At the moment, the bright child from an ill-respected school can show certificates to prove he or she is suitable for a job, while the lack of certificate indicates the unsuitability of a dull child attending a well-respected school. This defence of excellence and opportunity would disappear if examinations were taken away, and the bright child from a poor family would be a prisoner of his or her school's reputation, unable to compete for employment with the child from the favoured school.

  28. 82. The word "favouritism" in paragraph 3 is used to describe the phenomenon that _____. A. bright children also need certificates to get satisfying jobs B. Children from well-respected schools tend to have good jobs C. Poor children with certificates are favoured in job markets D. Children attending ordinary schools achieve great success

Several nations including Brazil and Mexico already have support programs in place.

This was the last straw. She could not take another insult. Besides, Mr. Petri was right: she was being wasted in this job.
