  1. Solving One Step Inequalities

  2. One Step Inequalities • Solve inequalities just like you would solve equations. • Inequalities with Addition & Subtraction • Do the opposite operations to get the variable by itself. • Inequalities with Multiplication & Division • Do the opposite operation to get the variable by itself. • If you are dividing or multiplying by a negative number, you have to change the inequality sign to its opposite!

  3. Adding or Subtracting One Step Inequalities 1. n – 8 < 15 + 8 + 8  add 8 to both sides n < 23 2. -4 ≥ a + 7 -7 - 7  subtract 7 from both sides -11 ≥ a

  4. Multiplying or Dividing One Step Inequalities 3. -3x > 24 -3 -3  Divide both sides by -3 x < -8  Change the inequality sign 4. ≤ 8  Multiply both sides by -2 a ≥ -16  Change the inequality sign

  5. Graphing & Checking One Step Inequalities • Graph • Check: n – 8 < 15 • 2. Graph • Check: -4 ≥ a + 7 • 3. Graph • Check: -3x > 24 • 4. Graph • Check: ≤ 8
