Important Facts About Grades • Progress Reports are given every 4 & ½ weeks • Report Cards are given every 9 weeks • In order to be eligible for sports or extra-curricular activities you must maintain a good grade point average • In order to participate in a Foreign Language you must maintain a good grade point average • It is your responsibility to make up missed assignments.

  13. Study Habits • Set a regular time to study • Turn off the TV, Facebook, and your cell phone! • Have the supplies you need for school and homework • Make sure to write your homework assignment down accurately

  14. Organization • Place all of your homework in your notebook/folder in the proper section. • Bring your notebooks/folders to all classes. • Gather materials needed for school the night before – do not wait until the morning of to get your things together.

Board Policy on Bullying • Bullying is defined as follows: An act which occurs on school property, on school vehicles, at school bus stops, or school related activities, or by use of electronic technology that is: • 1. Any willful attempt or threat to inflict injury on another person • 2. Any intentional display of force that would give the victim reason to fear bodily harm • 3. Any intentional written, verbal, or physical act, which a reasonable person would perceive as being intended to threaten, harass, or intimidate • 4. Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s education • 5. Is so severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating or threatening environment • Has the effect of substantially disrupting the orderly operation of the school

  16. What is Bullying? Bullying is purposely and repeatedly hurting someone who’s younger, weaker, or less powerful than you.

  17. Bullying State Law • Each local board of education shall adopt policies, applicable to students in grades six through 12, that prohibit bullying of a student by another student and shall require such prohibition to be included in the student code of conduct for middle and high schools in that school system. Local board policies shall require that, upon a finding that a student has committed the offense of bullying for the third time in a school year, such student shall be assigned to an alternative school.

  18. There are 3 Types of Bullying • Verbal • Social • Physical

  19. Verbal Bullying • Teasing and name calling (online, texting, or face-to-face)

  20. Social bullying • Spreading rumors • Excluding people on purpose • Breaking up friendships (online, texting, or face-to-face)

  21. Physical Bullying • Hitting • Shoving • Spitting

  22. What do I do if I am being Bullied? • You need to report the behavior to an adult (teacher, counselor or administrator). • Remember you are probably not the only one the bully is bullying. • Sometimes people do not know the behavior is unwanted until you tell them.

  23. What if I see Bullying happening to someone else? • You can report the bullying incident to an adult (teacher, counselor or administrator). • Fairplay is only as safe as the students make it. If you do nothing to prevent Bullying you are saying it is okay to Bully in your school.

  24. What you need to know about BULLYING!

  25. Do not be afraid to Report! • A person reporting being bullied has the option to remain anonymous. • Any report of retaliation for reporting bullying will be investigated and addressed as called for by the Board Policy.

  27. Sexual Harassment • Sexual Harassment can be physical, verbal, or nonverbal. • Federal and State Laws make sexual harassment illegal, whether it involves different sex or same sex situations.

  28. Physical Examples are: • Bumping into someone or brushing against the person on purpose. • Patting, hugging or kissing • Grabbing, touching or pinching • Standing in someone’s way or standing too closely • These examples can be considered sexual battery.

  29. Verbal Examples are: • Threats, insults, comments about a person’s body • Sexual jokes, suggestions or remarks, sexual stories or rumors • Notes, letters or graffiti • Whistles or rude noises

  30. Nonverbal Examples Are: • Staring at someone’s body, sexual pictures or drawings • Gestures or looks—winking, licking lips, or suggestive body movements

  31. Remember One Basic Rule! It’s probably sexual harassment if the person feels uncomfortable or threatened. It doesn’t matter what the harasser intended.

  32. Use of Profanity IS NOT Allowed! • Use of profanity is prohibited on school grounds, the school bus, or at any school activity. • If you are caught using profanity you will be assigned after school detention. • If the profanity continues you will be given ISS.
