  3. So, choosing a ‘Just Right’ book is really important .. – – not too easy, not too difficult

  4. So how do you choose a 'Just Right' book?Pair and Share

  5. How to Choose A Just Right Book • Look at the cover • Read the title and the author’s name • Read the blurb at the back • Flip through the book • Read a paragraph or a page (about 100 words) • Use the 5 word rule

  6. Use The ‘5 Word’ rule • Read the first full page of the book. (About 100 words) • Put up one finger each time you read a word you don’t know. • Use the chart to see if it’s a just right book.

  7. Other ways to find a' just right' book include: • The print size is perfect for me (white space too) • It has the perfect amount of pictures for me • I find the topic interesting • The book is from a series I have read • I understand and like the first sentence • I find the front and back cover interesting

  8. Let’s Practise the 5 Word Rule

  9. Diane’s Fiancé’s Ex-Wife’s Brother’s Heartby Carmel Bird I rent an apartment that is not far from the centre of the city. The apartment is on a main road where the trams run in the middle and two lanes of cars go on either side of the tracks. We are not far from the zoo and I have sometimes heard what I take to be the roaring of the lions in the early hours of the morning.

  10. Chemistry Dimensions by Faye Jeffery A Special case of dipole-dipole bonding – hydrogen bonds As we have seen, a permanent dipole is formed when two atoms in a molecule have different electronegative elements. The greater the difference in electronegativity, the more polar the resultant bond. Page 144.

  11. Pninby Vladimir Nabokov Chapter 1 The elderly passenger sitting on the north-window side of that inexorably moving railway coach was none other than TimofeyPnin…..His sloppy socks were of scarlet wool with lilac lozenges; his conservative black Oxfords had cost him about as much as all the rest of his clothing.

  12. The Twitsby Roald Dahl Once a week on Wednesdays, the Twits had bird pie for supper. Mr Twit caught the birds and Mrs Twit cooked them. Mr Twit was good at catching birds. On the day before Bird Pie day, he would put the ladder up against the big dead tree and climb into its vast branches. With a bucket of glue and a paint brush. The glue he used was something called Hugtight and it was stickier than any other glue in the world. He would paint it along the tops of the branches and then go away.

  13. The Ghost Upon the Railby Henry Lawson Having eaten his supper, the old man rose from his chair, put on his hat and left his abode. In reply to his wife’s question, ‘Where are you going?’ he said ‘To Mr Smith’s; I’ll be home in an hour or so. I have business as I told you to transact.’ The old woman suggested that he could surely wait till the morning; but he took no heed of her and walked away.

  14. Sometimes it’s ok to read books that are a bit easy for us, if we are interested in them. We should try to read books that help us improve our reading and teach us new words – just right books are the best for that. HAPPY READING
