  2. Project Overview • This project called for abrasive blasting and painting of the steel beams supporting the overpasses on 7 stretches of US Highway 421 outside of Clinton.

  3. Services Performed • For this project, all steel beams on the overpasses in the area around Clinton, NC were abrasive blasted using a grit recycling system and painted. Saffo was responsible for adhering to all DOT specifications for traffic control and monitoring. During two phases of the project, traffic had to be diverted from the main intersection of the town for the duration of the weekend in order to complete all work.

  5. Traffic Control Saffo was responsible for setting up lane closures, detours, and signal trucks to reroute traffic while work was being completed.

  6. Phase One of Intersection Work The main intersection of Clinton has two overpasses that required blasting and painting work. The work was done in two consecutive weekends, and in a manner so that traffic was still permitted to pass through under a lane closure.

  7. Containment Intersection Phase One containment from an alternate angle, with traffic uninhibited.

  8. Overpass Two Containment Much of the blast work was done by night so as to maintain proper temperature conditions for painting.

  9. Containment Three ARS Dust Collector in place on overpass three.
