  2. Birth 1491- Jacques was born at St. Malo, Britany

  3. He sailed for the French.

  4. 1534 1534-Jacques explored the Gulf of St. Lawrence for fur.

  5. 1535-36 Jacques used the 2 Indian translaters to pilot him up the St. Lawrence River to Stadacond (the sit map of modern Quebec)

  6. 1541-42 He was chosen to serve under the nominal command of Jean Francois de la Rocque de Roberval, although the latter did not sail with him.

  7. 1557 • Cartier died at St. Malo on Sept.1, 1557

  8. He was important because he was the first to explore the St. Lawrence River.

  9. Fun Facts • He crossed the Atlantic in twenty days. • He was looking for a passage to China • Cartier's favorite color is blue, because that's the color of the sea.
