  1. The Importance Of A Good Scope Mount System Hunting and shooting are activities enjoyed all over the world, and certainly in America. It is a tradition often passed on from one generation to the next, and even from a young age children are exposed to rifles, guns, and telescopic sights. The experienced, and even now, the hunter knows that the importance of a good telescopic sight can never be underestimated, for it is the sight, and how well it sits on your rifle’s receiver, that may play an important part in how successful you are when aiming and firing at the target. Many rifles come with their sights already attached, while others are sold without. You buy the rifle of your choice and then choose the telescopic sight that you prefer. Of course, when choosing the sight, you will look at various considerations such as, say, magnification, weight, lens size, adjustment for wind and elevation, a reticle (crosshairs), and other issues. Once you have the rifle of your choice (which can be an exciting search) and the telescopic sight, you will have to attach or mount the sight. In order to do this, it is necessary to acquire a good telescopic mount system. This system consists of a base and accompanying rings which will be attached with screws to the top of the rifle’s receiver. It is mentioned that these days firearms come from the factory with holes drilled into the rifle so that one can fit the base and rings by using the screws you get with your scope mount system. The base is attached to the firearm, with the rings attached thereto. This is your scope mount system, the base and the rings. The DIY enthusiast will order the scope mount system from a retailer, either a gun shop in the mall or at dedicated premises – or via an online process. The latter, the online process, has become the choice for many rifle owners, since fitting your scope is part of the pleasure of preparing your rifle for the hunt. Besides, most rifle owners are proud of their firearms and want to understand how the parts, and their interaction, fit into the whole process of acquiring a rifle and ammunition and then attaching their scope on top. It has to be mentioned, too, that some firearms are automatically fitted with what is called a Picatinny or Weaver-type rail when you buy it. This rail forms part of your rifle’s receiver and is, therefore, already attached. So, you do not need a base as part of your scope mount system, since the Picatinny or Weaver is, indeed, the base to which your rings will be attached. Once you have the telescopic sight and mount system (with or without base) you can go ahead and mount the rings which will hold the sight in place. It goes without saying that the rings you acquire should be of high quality since the rings (and base) must ensure that when you shoot, the sight does not move, or that anything causes a disturbance that can be relayed to the quality of the scope mount. Precision is always important, for both the target shooter and the hunter, and often more so for the person that stalks his prey, aims, and fires – to be thrilled, or to be disappointed. If the sight is in place and perfectly mounted with a good-quality mounting system, you are off to a good start. It is good advice to deal with a retailer or supplier of scope mount systems that are made from, say, billet aluminum which is known to be strong and durable. If you have a good scope mount system and you follow the manufacturer’s instructions, you will, indeed, attach your sights properly. Find a good dealer, one known for the quality of their products and the advice they offer.
