Good Scope Mo Good Scope Mounting Rings unting Rings – – A Good Start For A Good Start For A Scope Mount Scope Mount A All hunters, also those that take part in competition shooting, want to know that their preparation allows them to ensure they have the best chance at hitting target time after the time, whether that is the elk or white-tailed deer they are hunting, or targets at the shooting range. Hunting and shooting are, for many Americans, the one passion that they practice as often as they are able to. Of course it starts with choosing the rifle you like best and to make sure your telescopic sight is of a good caliber to help aid your efforts at being precise and accurate. Many rifles these days are sold with a telescopic sight already attached as part of the purchase. But in many cases retailers leave that choice to the purchaser of the firearm. So, you buy the firearm, and you acquire your scope separately, either from the same retailer or one known for the quality of the optic material they market. If this is your choice, then you need to mount, or attach, the scope to the top of your firearm. For this process you will need a scope mounting base and rings. These two parts, the base and rings, are affixed to your rifle, for the telescopic sight to be affixed to. This process has to ensure that the mounting – also referred to as scope mount – is completed in a way that ensures the scope sits tightly on top of your rifle’s receiver, and to be sure that there is no movement between the scope and moving parts of the rifle. This should be done according to the instructions you receive from the retailer that you buy your scope rings and base from. The good services normally make sure that their client gets a good set of instructions that leads them through the process. The scope mount system (the rings and the base) is normally sold together with those tiny screws you need to mount the base and rings. When you buy your rifle, you will notice tiny holes which had been drilled into the receiver where the scope is to be mounted. Into these holes will fit the tiny screws mentioned earlier, which must ensure that the scope sits tightly in position – for no possibility of movement when you move around or fire shots. A tightly fitted scope is one of the prerequisites for success when you aim and shoot. It is clear that hunters and shooters need a good base and quality rings to mount on their rifle – for the scope to be fitted. However, it also should be mentioned that, in some cases, you need the rings only since the base part is already fitted on the rifle that you buy. These bases come in more than one variety, for example the Picatinny or Weaver style rail that forms part of the receiver of the firearm that you buy. You only have to buy the rings. Whether you buy the whole scope mount system (base and rings) or only the rings, still leaves you with choices as to what rings you are going to buy, and who you will be buying them from. It is advisable to make sure you get rings that are mentioned for being durable and fit for purpose. Experienced shooters, and those that have fitted their rings – or base and rings – will tell the newcomer never to skimp on the scope mounts you get for your rifle scope. If you do, and acquire sub-standard rings, you may be setting yourself up for failure, right from the start. Get a good scope mount system; make sure the rings and accessories are recommended for durability, precision and accuracy.
