  1. Good Scope Mount Systems Good Scope Mount Systems – – A Pre Hunter That Prefers To Mount Their Own Sights Hunter That Prefers To Mount Their Own Sights A Pre- -Requisite For The Requisite For The Hunters, competition shooters and all enthusiasts that shoot guns and other firearms rely on accuracy and consistency when time and again they want to hit target. This means they need a good firearm from any of the world’s leading brands, be that a Browning, Tikka, Savage, Marlin or other example. But a good rifle alone is not enough, not if you want accuracy and precision every time you pull the trigger. You need a good rifle with a well-fitted scope, or telescopic sight. It makes sense that a sub-standard sight does not contribute to successful shooting, much as a good sight that is not fitted well, will not help the shooter or hunter either. This becomes apparent every time a hunter or shooter sets out to take part in what is, for many, their favorite pastime. Good sights help ensure success. Many hunters and shooters buy their rifle from a retailer – or online service – with a sight already fitted; however, many buy the sight separately. Reasons vary: Some simply enjoy looking around at the options they like better, and many others, still, actually enjoy the process of fitting the sight themselves. Fortunately this can be done. You choose the sight you prefer and acquire the scope mount system and its parts to ensure you mount the scope perfectly on top of your firearm. Make sure you follow the supplier’s instructions. For those clients that buy these scope mounts, or scope mounting systems, from a retailer or website, a word of advice: Deal with a reputable company known for their good name in their business, preferably a service with a good number of successful years behind them as manufacturers and marketers of leading mounting systems. And make sure they supply a guide that takes you through the mounting process step by step - and that they supply any parts such as, say, screws, if that is part of the agreement. Today, as opposed to many decades ago, most firearms are sold with holes drilled in the top of the firearm’s receiver, so that hunters and shooters can mount their own optic device. Some firearms have a built-in Weaver- or Picatinny-style rail for this purpose. Of course you will first select the scope that will best suit your firearm’s profile and the brand, which is an important part of the process to help you ensure accuracy out in the field or on the range. Talk to manufacturers and experienced retailers, instructors – also online services – to point you in the right direction if you are very inexperienced in this regard. You may find them to be helpful if you need advice. Once you have decided on the scope, it is time to make sure you acquire the best scope mount system, which consists of a base and rings to go on top of your firearm – to which the scope will be attached. When doing this by yourself, simply follow the instructions of the manufacturer or retailer. The base is the flat part that goes directly on top of the rifle or gun, which you attach with tiny screws, which the service provider you are dealing with, should provide. The base is attached to the holes which are drilled into the firearm by the manufacturer – for this purpose. Make sure you tighten the base properly so that the scope and the rings are firmly attached, as you do not want any movement between the base and the rifle.

  2. There are also some rifles that come with the base which forms part of the receiver itself. Examples are the afore-mentioned Weaver- or Picatinny-style rails, for which you do not need the base parts, as it actually is the base. Whatever optics you choose, make sure that if it is one that requires a scope mount system, that you approach a recommended service for advice – and a good base and rings.
