  1. Water bears live in space!! Space The Sun is over 300000 times larger than earth. More Sun facts. Halley’s Comet was last seen in the inner Solar System in 1986, it will be visible again from Earth sometime in 2061 (get your camera ready). More comet facts. Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system with a surface temperature of over 450 degrees celcius.

  2. Jupiter Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and is the largest planet in the solar system, like the other four outer planets Jupiter is a gas giant.

  3. Jupiter’s larger moon Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system – It’s has a diameter of 5,268 km making it larger than the planet Mercury.Jupiter had two rings – These are thought to be composed of material from it’s moons where they have been struck by meteorites.Jupiter is the third brightest object in the solar system – It is one of five planets that can be seen with the naked eye, the others are Mercury, Venus, Mars and Saturn. It is not known when Jupiter was discovered – The earliest record of Jupiter is from Babylonian texts dating from the 7th or 8th century BC. Jupiter is named after the king of the Roman gods – Jupiter has also been known as Zeus the Greek god of thunder and Marduk the Mesopotamian god and patron of the city of Babylon. Jupiter’s most recognisable feature is the Great Red Storm – This is a storm that has been raging for at least 350 years and is large enough for two Earths to fit inside of.

  4. Venus A day on Venus lasts longer than a year:It takes 243 Earth days to make rotate once on its axis. The planet’s orbit around the Sun takes 225 Earth days, compared to the Earth’s 365. Venus is often called the Earth’s sister planet:Earth and Venus are very similar in size with only a 638 km difference in diameter, Venus having 81.5% of the Earth’s mass. Both also have a central core, a molten mantle and a crust.

  5. DidYouKnow? Venus is also known as the Morning Star and the Evening Star:Early civilisations thought Venus was two different bodies, called Phosphorus and Hesperus by the Greeks, and Lucifer and Vesper by the Romans. This is because when its orbit around the Sun overtakes Earth’s orbit, it changes from being visible after sunset to being visible before sunrise. Mayan astronomers made detailed observations of Venus as early as 650 AD.Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system:The average surface temperature is 462 °C, and because Venus does not tilt on its axis, there is no seasonal variation. The dense atmosphere of around 96.5 percent carbon dioxide traps heat and causes a greenhouse effect. Venus is the second brightest object in the night sky:Only the Moon is brighter. With a magnitude of between -3.8 to -4.6 Venus is so bright it can be seen during daytime on a clear day. Atmospheric pressure on Venus is 92 times greater than the Earth’s:While its size and mass are similar to Earth, the small asteroids are crushed when entering its atmosphere, meaning no small craters lie on the surface of the planet. The pressure felt by a human on the surface would be equivalent to that experienced deep beneath the sea on Earth.
