  3. Jiangsu Province • Population of 80+ million • One of the richest provinces in China • One of the highest literacy rates in China (94%) • 1.2 million post-secondary students • Capital city is Nanjing

  4. OJS offers • Academic exchange to 13 universities • One or two semesters • Summer programs • Summer Research Program • Intensive Mandarin Course • Chinese Language and Culture Program • Summer Design School • Summer Food Culture Program • Social Change in China Course

Academic Exchange • One semester: $2,500 scholarship • Two semesters: $3,500 scholarship • 13 universities across Jiangsu province, together offering more than 80 undergraduate programs in English • Biology, biotechnology, business management, chemistry, computer science, education, environmental engineering, finance, fine arts, food science, geography, industrial design, international economics and trade, logistics, mechanical engineering, medical science, nursing, petrochemical engineering, textile engineering, tourism, etc.

Academic Exchange • 13 universities • 12 offer one or more undergraduate programs in English, plus various courses in English • 3 universities offer all graduate programs in English • One university (Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University) operates in English • 38 undergraduate programs • 42 Master’s programs • 985 and 211 universities • National universities • Nanjing University • Southeast University

  7. Summer Research Program • Minimum of 3 Months • May-August • Research Linkage? • Faculty Supervisor at home university and faculty member in Jiangsu • Agree on research program • Letters from both faculty with application • Scholarship of $2,500

  8. Summer Research Program • Jiangsu universities are in session in May and June • Possible to audit some courses • Work directly with a faculty supervisor as part of a research team • Chinese language courses also available • Credit transfer is responsibility of student and home university

  9. Intensive Mandarin Course • Nanjing University of the Arts • 4 weeks, mid May to mid June • About $1,000, all inclusive • For Students with at least basic Mandarin • Designed for students wishing to improve their language capabilities • Students placed at appropriate level based on testing • Dates andcost (about $1,000) to be confirmed • OJS Scholarship of $2,000

  10. Chinese Language and Culture Program • Yangzhou University • 4 weeks, July • About $1,000 tuition, room, meals, etc. • Survival Chinese • Local excursions • Social, historical and cultural activities • OJS Scholarship of $2,000

  11. Summer Design School • Jiangnan University, Xuxi • June 17 - July 14 (tentative) • US$2,000 per person, all inclusive except for return airfare • Interdisciplinary practice for design students from various backgrounds, to explore different emerging issues along with new technologies and services, and to create a unique cultural experience of the traditional and the new cultures in China  • OJS Scholarship of $2,000

  12. Summer Food Culture Program • Jiangnan University, Wuxi • Mid May – mid June • US$2,000 inclusive of tuition, accommodation, meals, travel • More than 20 lectures, several tours and visits (including Nanjing and Shanghai), activities with local students, and—of course—many tasty opportunities  • OJS Scholarship of $2,000

Social Change in China • Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University • July (4 weeks) • About $3,600 • Inclusive of travel in China, meals, and accommodation • Course • Trips to Xi’an, Chengdu, and Hangzhou, plus local excursions • Study changes in Chinese society since reform and opening in 1978, looking at regional development, interpersonal relations, and inequality • OJS Scholarship of $2,000
