  2. HOPE IN THE DARK PLACES “The worst thing that can happen to a man is to have no God to cry to out of the depth…The depth is simply the height inverted…God is deeper than the deepest depth in man.”P. T. Forsyth

  3. Isaiah 40:27 – 31 (NIV) Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God"? 28Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

  4. Isaiah 40:27 – 31 (NIV) He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

  5. Isaiah 40:27 – 31 (NIV) but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

  6. HOPE IN THE DARK PLACES Hope prompts us to... Wrestle with God

  7. Genesis 32:24-31(NCV) So Jacob was alone, and a man came and wrestled with him until the sun came up. 25When the man saw he could not defeat Jacob, he struck Jacob's hip and put it out of joint. 26Then he said to Jacob, "Let me go. The sun is coming up." But Jacob said, "I will let you go if you will bless me."

  8. Genesis 32:24-31(NCV) 27The man said to him, "What is your name?" And he answered, "Jacob." 28Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob. Your name will now be Israel, because you have wrestled with God and with people, and you have won."

  9. Genesis 32:24-31 (NCV) 29Then Jacob asked him, "Please tell me your name." But the man said, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed Jacob there. 30So Jacob named that place Peniel, saying, "I have seen God face to face, but my life was saved." 31Then the sun rose as he was leaving that place, and Jacob was limping because of his leg.

  10. Hope in God is a confident, disciplined, expectant, active and sometimes painful clinging to God.
