  1. How do you become a doula?

  2. Not just anyone can be a doula.  It takes a certain compassion and dedication to take on the type of responsibilities that a doula has. 

  3. Listed below are just a few of the requirements that a certified doula must meet: • Must attend a 16 hour birth doula workshop. • Read at least a minimum of five books • that are on the DONA International approved list. • Purchase a birth doula certification packet.

  4. Listed below are just a few of the requirements that a certified doula must meet: • Complete one of the following requirements: • Observe a childbirth preparation series • Attend an introduction to childbirth doula class • Train in midwifery or childbirth education • Have recent or current work experience • in child birth as a registered nurse

Listed below are just a few of the requirements that a certified doula must meet: • Submit one of the following: • Proof of completion of a breastfeeding class • Proof of at least one of the many online • certification classes • Provide proof of lactation education courses • Proof of breastfeeding basic classes or study • Proof of a minimum of 3 hours in a certified breastfeeding class

Listed below are just a few of the requirements that a certified doula must meet: • Provide doula services to at least 3 clients. • Submission of proper documentation as required by DONA International on the 3 clients you served as a doula for. • Develop a list of resources. • Read and sign the DONA International • code of ethics.

  7. Listed below are just a few of the requirements that a certified doula must meet: • Provide all current contact information • Submit a typewritten essay on the importance of • a doula. • Pay certification processing fee. • Verify you certification with DONA International.

  8. Listed below are just a few of the requirements that a certified doula must meet: • Mail all required documentation to DONA International. • Maintain continuous membership with DONA International by completing required continuing education courses.
