  1. Title:- Chain Drive | Definitions , Types, Advantages and Disadvantages What is chain drive? Before going to chain drive we first understand “What is mean by Chain?” A chain can be defined as a series of links connected by pin joints. The chain drive consists of an endless chain that wraps around two sprockets. Advantages of Chain Drive:- Available for long and short range. Drive on multiple axes and a single chain Small in size, small in total. There is no risk of fire. The temperature and environmental conditions do not affect the operation. No initial tension is needed. The efficiency is very high (up to 96%). Do not slip Installation is easier It can withstand difficult conditions They can work in wet conditions. Disadvantages of Chain Drive:- Some disadvantages of chain transmissions compared to gear and belt transmissions are:- Requires precise alignment compared to belt drive Frequent lubrication is required Less load capacity compared to gears. Its operation is noisy and can cause vibrations. Not suitable for axes that are not parallel. Cannot be used where precise movement is required They need housing

Classification of Chain Drives:- Chain Drive are classified into three types;- 1.Load lifting chains 2.Power transmission chains 3.Hauling chains 1.Load lifting chains:- It is used to suspend, increase or decrease the load in material handling operations. 2. Power Transmission Chains:- The power transmission chains are used to transmitting the power from one shaft to another. 3. Hauling chains:- It is used to keep the material moving by sliding, pulling or transporting it on the conveyor.
