  1. Why Is It Essential To Know How To Fix A Ding On Your Own? Let’s Tunnel In! Without a doubt, being a surfer is not just about spending a great time in the water. It is also crucial for you to have at least a basic knowledge about surfboard repair, especially when it comes to ding repair. Dings are generally common, particularly when you are a beginner. However, experienced surfers, due to normal use and abuse, also have to struggle with dinged surfboards more than normal. Many people might think why I should learn how to repair the ding when there are ding repair specialists? The answer is- while it is true that ding repair specialists will always do a better job at fixing, you do not actually need their help when it is about fixing a minor ding. Moreover, you can save a huge amount of money by doing ding repair work on your own. Below- mentioned are some of the ways of fixing ding on your own. 1. Gather the essential supplies: It depends on you; you can buy the entire ding repair kit or some of the following- • Safety mask and goggles • Sandpaper (80 or 100 grit, plus 220 grit) • Masking tape • Fiberglass cloth • Wax comb • Knife • Q-Cell (if there are large voids/holes to fill) • Sanding resin and catalyst • Acetone • Paintbrush 2. Eliminate rotten and damaged area: On the off chance, if it is a new ding, better wait for the board o dry so that you don’t have to remove much. But if the has already happened in the past, look for the rotten areas that you need to eliminate as well. 3. Clean the area: This is where you have to use the wax comb in order to eliminate any remaining wax. The acetone will also be used to remove the other particles. Once you are sure that the surfboard is clean, use the sandpaper and sand down the area.

  2. 4. Shield the surrounding areas with masking tape: In addition to protecting the surrounding areas, doing that will assist with containing the repair and lessening the sanding needed. 5. Fill in the gaps: This step is only required if there are hefty holes or voids in the board. 6. Sand the area down: Keep sanding it until the Q-cell mixture gets flat with the board. As quickly as you gain confidence in repairing the surfboard, you’ll be sanding lower to accommodate the resin coat. 7. Glass the repair: Cut 2 circular or round pieces of fiberglass. Ensure that one is a little bigger than the other part, and both are a bit bigger than the repaired area. Blend an ounce of sanding resin and 10 catalyst drops. Stir it well until it starts to warm up/kick. 8. Sand the area again: Once the resin has gotten hard, sand the area again by using sandpaper. Ensure there isn’t any bulge and ensure to smooth the edges. 09. Add a hot coat of fresh resin: Apply another layer of resin with a few additional drops of catalyst added to the mixture. Once done, sand and polish the repair. So, these were some steps you can follow to repair the dinged surfboard. For more information, please feel free to contact us. Source: https://dingzap.com/
