  2. Software Systems • Software systems are the computer programs that interact to operate a computer system. • Software is an essential component of a computer system, without it, computer hardware wouldn’t have the instructions to run.

  3. Two main types1. System Software2. Application Software

  4. System Software • Programs that manage the computer’s hardware – Operating Systems • PC - Windows • Mac – what does a mac use?

  5. Application Software Application software interacts with the system software which then directs the hardware to do a particular job.

  6. This lesson! 1. Compare (identify the positives and negative) Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Think about the ease of use and navigation and application software. Include personal preferences. 2. For each software list 2 tasks that can be carried out using that software. For example: Microsoft word – Writing a letter Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, ITunes, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Publisher, Access. Include others that you may know of. 3. Choose a occupation that interests you. List some of the tasks in this job. Select software that might help complete these tasks and outline features that make it appropriate.
