The View from HQ

Good news:

A rebaseline was completed in October to recover reserves

Integration of LAT & GBM with spacecraft is underway

HQ support remains strong

Old “news”:

Spacecraft “issues” continue

Schedule threats continue

users committee membership
Users Committee Membership

Members were appointed for 3-year terms; most have now served that long

Steady-state goal is for 1/3 of membership to rotate off each year

To achieve this, we need volunteers to stay on another year or two (please send email to fharnden@nasa.gov)

At next meeting (February) new members will attend with all current members (last meeting for those not staying on longer)

guest investigator fellows programs
Guest Investigator & Fellows Programs

GI Program (ROSES 2007):

Draft text for GLAST Appendix specifies 2-stage review:

Stage 1: Scientific merit (“Regular” and “Large” proposals, each with specified cost caps)

Stage 2: Cost reasonableness evaluation for “science winners”

Comments on draft solicited from GUC via email

Fellows Program (not part of ROSES):

Fellows program must be contracted out; several JOFOC or FOC possibilities under consideration:

Through a Great Observatory (e.g., Hubble, Chandra)?

Via an existing NASA contractor (e.g., ORAU, U. Md.)?

Via some “new” contractor?

First proposals due November 2007

Selections made February 2008

Fellows to start September 2008
