  1. Winter Data Review WorkdayDistrictLeadership Teams February 27, 2014

  2. Acknowledgements The material for this training day was developed by Ingham ISD: • Theron Blakeslee, John Endahl, Melanie Kahler, Matt Phillips, Jeanne Tomlinson, Kelly Trout, Laura Colligan and Mary Jo Wegenke Content based on the work of… • MiBLSi project (Steve Goodman, Anna Harms, Melissa Nantais, Jennifer Rollenhagen, Kim St. Martin, Tennille Whitmore) • George Batsch, University of South Florida • Robert Balfanz, Everyone Graduates Center and Johns Hopkins University • Roland Good and Rob Horner, University of Oregon • George Sugai, University of Connecticut • Joe Torgesen, Florida Center for Reading Research • Dawn Miller, Shawnee Mission School District, Kansas

  3. Accessing Today’s Materials MTSS Implementers Website http://mtss-implementers.wiki.inghamisd.org  District Data Review page POMPOMS! The documents we are using today are on flash drives attached to ISD pompoms. OR Cute as they are, please don’t take them home!

  4. Describing the Connection • The district data review process results in the identification of areas that the district schools need to prioritize • The priorities (findings from the data review) need to be communicated to the administrative team and to the building leadership teams and staff • Priorities and corresponding actions are documented in both the District Improvement Plan and the School Improvement Plan(s) • The district data review process looks for common implementation challenges across schools so that the district implementation team can work to eliminate barriers to successful implementation

  5. LearningTargets I can articulate… • the purpose and value in a District Data Review. • how process data can inform the district about current academic and behavior systems • how student outcomes data can inform the district about student performance. • how student outcome data and process data can be used together to inform district goals. • the purpose and steps in a problem solving process; gather data, identify and analyze problem(s), develop an action plan, and evaluate the plan.

  6. District evaluation of MTSS...not an exact replication of building-level problem solving • Time is an even higher commodity • Districts will have tensions between the needs of schools and the demands and resources available from the region and state • More data to analyze, analysis techniques will differ • Decisions and actions must take into account the entire district

  7. Materials • District Folder (Wiki and Flash drive) • Process Data Tables (BoQ, BSA, PET-R, SWEPT, PET-M, PET-M MS) • District Process Data Overview Form • District Mathematics Overview Form • District Literacy Overview Form • Summary of Effectiveness Decision Rules • MEAP Targets (Building & District) • Blank Problem Solving Guide • Worked Example Problem Solving Guide (Systems, Behavior, Academics) • Illuminate Ed & BAA Log-in Information

  8. Who will do what? Assign roles for each team member ✔Facilitator • Keep discussion on-topic • Elicit input from all team-members ✔ Data Review Guide Recorder • Complete the Problem Solving Guide on your laptop and/or a hard copy • May choose to project so team can follow along throughout the day ✔ ASSIST Updater • Pull up ASSIST on your laptop • Add progress updates to your School Improvement Plan throughout the day ✔ Report Generator • Be prepared to pull up reports on your laptop using Illuminate Ed (if applicable), PBIS Apps and the BAA Secure Site ✔ Action Plan Recorder • As you go through the day, make sure any to-do’s are noted on your action plan (Step 3 in the Problem Solving Guide) . ✔Timekeeper and Monitor of Task Completion • Keep your team moving efficiently • Complete the Exit Checklist as you go, and turn it in to Nicole Belman at the end of the day

  9. Team Time • Assign Roles • Review: • Materials • District Improvement Plan • Fall Action Plan • Begin Data Analysis Process Data (use the Process Data Overview Forms to record observations) Outcome data (use the District Literacy & Mathematics Overview Forms as a place to record observations) Current Performance, Trends, Special Education Review the School-wide overview forms from Building Data Review Prioritize areas of concerns across the district • Begin the problem solving process • Update the District Improvement Plan if needed • Complete the Communication Plan

  10. Data Sets & Purpose Trend Outcome Process • MEAP(IE or MISchoolData.org) • AIMSweb ROI by Measure for Reading & Math (IE) • Summary of Effectiveness(IE) • Suspensions/Expulsions (SWIS or PowerSchool, Skyward) • Tier Transition Report (AW) • Local Assessments (IE) • PET-R (P) • SWEPT-R (P) • PET-M (P) • PET-M Middle School (P) • BSA (P) • BoQ (P) • MEAP (IE) • AIMSweb (IE) AW = AIMsweb; IE = Illuminate Ed; P = Provided

  11. Illuminate Ed Reports Use your District Mathematics and Literacy Overview forms for note taking as you are looking at multiple data sets.

  12. District Process DataPET-R/SWEPT & PET-M • < 80% in RED

  13. District Process Data - Behavior

  14. As seen at Building Data Days Process Data - Behavior pbisapps.org Benchmarks of Quality (BoQ) • Completed annually by school leadership teams • Tier 1 SWPBIS implementation fidelity check • 53 benchmarks across 10 critical elements of implementation. • Identifies areas of strength and need; informs problem analysis and action planning. • 70% Implementation Goal Self-Assessment Survey (SAS) • Completed annually by building staff • Fidelity check of PBIS implementation across (a) school wide, (b) non-classroom, (c) classroom, and (d) individual students • Seven key elements of the Implementation Subsystems • Informs of areas of strength and need, including communication between leadership team and staff • 70% Implementation Goal
