  4. What is “class?” • Class = a way to describe how much money or power a person has in society.

  5. Lens #1: Class = Money • This is how we usually think about class • INCOME • the amount of money you make per year or month • WEALTH • propertyyou own • Examples: Houses, Cars, Boats, Planes, Stocks/Investments, Businesses, Land

  6. Classes when class = money* • Upper Class • High income + a lot of wealth • Middle Class • Average income + average wealth • Average income in the US: $50,000 a year • Lower Class • Low income + little or no wealth
