  1. Writing like a pirate By Cristian Munoz

  2. East Carolina University “Providing cultural enrichment and powerful inspiration as we work to sustain and improve quality of life” Every day, life is a battle, and at one point you may think you lost everything, but the one thing you won’t lose is your education. With the education provided at ECU you will be equipped with the arms necessary to fight your way in life. They will provide you with a strong foundation of liberal arts that will last you a lifetime.

  3. University Writing Program Every ECU student must take minimum of 12 hrs, Which does include: • Engl 1100 • Engl 1200 • two more upper division WI courses. ECU offers plenty of writing-intensive courses, too many to list, but here is a few: • ENGL 3010. History of British Literature • ENGL 3020. History of American Literature to 1900 • ENGL 4360. World Literature in English • ENGL 2730. Functional Grammar • ENGL 2830. Writing and Style • ENGL 3030. Introduction to Rhetorical Studies • ENGL 3040. Introduction to Professional Writing • Etc…

  4. Ex. Course: (WI) Courses Emphasizing Academic Writing Writing assignments most often given: • Minimum of 20 to 25 pages of edited academic writing • 1 research paper of 10-15 pages, written in multiple drafts, and 2 short "preparation" papers such as summaries, critiques, and syntheses of source materials (5-7 pages each) • OR, 4-5 short papers (of 5 pages each), in multiple drafts, summarizing, critiquing, or synthesizing course reading materials

  5. Expectations Writers checklist: Introduction • Thesis  • How is the paper presented? Body • Evidence • Quotations Conclusion Bibliography Style Mechanics According to the some course description, they are going to expect for us to do: • critical reading • library research • research writing • Analytical writing • Argumentative writing. Critical analyzing and competitive arguments are some of the few effective writing strategies.

  6. MyMajor concern As a future camera guy, photographer or Computer Engineer, I could take only the minimum requirements and focus more on what I really want to do…

  7. Learning & Comparing Based on my research on the WI courses in ECU I found that… • The class assignments are exactly what I expected, I'm only worried that I do write 20-25 pages on one or various topics. • Very different to 2-5 pages for English Class in High school. How do I prepare? Well… I thank Elon, for giving me this chance to take on a College course. On the first day we were asked a question. Why are we here? I said “I am here to learn”, and this is exactly how I am going to prepare my self.
