Electricity • Without electricity I wouldn’t be able to use my computer or have lights in my house • I wouldn’t have a TV • We wouldn’t have electric cars • We would not have running water • We would not be able to charge cell phones • Hospitals, schools, amusement parks would not be the same • I would not have video games and ipods

  3. 1752 • Benjamin Franklin invented the lightening rod. He demonstrated that lightning was electricity. • He tied a key to a kite string during a thunderstorm and proved that static electricity and lightening were the same thing

  4. The 1800’s • Samuel Morse invented the electric telegraph. A machine that could send messages long distance across wires. • Charles Brush invented a generator that could produce a steady stream current of electricity. He also made a lamp. • Thomas Edison founded the Edison Electric Light Co. He invented a long lasting light bulb.

  5. The 1900’s • The first power line between the United States and Canada was opened. • Electric air conditioning was invented. • By 1947, almost all American’s had electricity. • The first successful computer was invented by IBM.

  6. My Family - 1927 • My Granny was born in 1927. Her parents were born in 1901 and 1907. When my grandmother was my age, she did not have electricity. They did not have running water or an electric stove, a refrigerator or indoor plumbing. • She used ice blocks to keep food cold (icebox) and cooked on a coal/wood stove. She used a oil lamp for light and a mule and wagon for transportation. She used an outhouse like I use when I go camping!

  7. The year 2001 • I was born 2001 the year the iPod was invented! • I love electricity because I like to use computers and cell phones. • THE END
