  3. Arsenic • Atomic number is 33 • Atomic Mass is 75 • Family: 15 Nitrogen • Arsenic has 5 valence electrons • It is a metalloid • Solid at room temperature • It has a dull like texture and is a greyish color.

History of Arsenic • Arsenic was Discovered by Albertus Magnus in 1250. • Arsenic was known well by the ancient Egyptians and is mentioned in one papyrus as a ways of gilding metals. • A more dangerous form of arsenic, called white arsenic, has also been long known. • Although it is now strongly linked with poison, arsenic was once used widely as a medicine • Some foods such as prawns contain a surprising amount of arsenic.

Popular uses • Arsenic is commonly found in many foods • Arsenic is used in bronzing, pyrotechnics and for hardening shot. • It is increasingly being used as a doping agent in solid state devices. • Arsenic occurs in many minerals, usually in conjunction with sulfur and metals, and also as a pure elemental crystal. • It is used for the stability of lead in car engines. • You can find high concentrations of arsenic in pesticides.

  6. Biological effect • Arsenic is deadly when used in the wrong way. • It is extremely deadly to plants and animals more than it is to a human. • Arsenic was used to help with skin diseases such as eczema and is also used to help with asthma.
