This study compares the effectiveness of web and paper-based travel diary surveys among students and academic staff in Zurich. It highlights response rates, completion rates, and response behaviors to determine the optimal survey methodology. Results show that a stage-based diary approach yielded the best response quality, with the pen-and-paper questionnaire outperforming the web-based survey. Acceptance of online surveys remains low, impacting response quality.
