The story so far….. • Students have already benefited from the developments to the house system in the following ways: • All year 11 students have had a 1-1 tutorial with their house leader focusing on their aspirations and current forecast grades • House Councils have been launched, giving students a powerful voice in determining the ethos and direction of their house and school • Students are benefiting from regular positive reinforcement for credits and good attendance in house assemblies • House leaders have developed subject links, ensuring that vital information regarding class work, controlled assessments and exams is passed quickly to those students in need • The first of many planned work scrutinies is currently taking place, ensuring that marking and assessment are in line with school procedure, but also to identify individuals and groups of students in need of extra assistance in reaching their targets

  13. Attendance. Did you know… Good attendance is linked to academic success

Time keeping • It is really important that our students arrive on time to school and attend registration. • Registration is a time when students receive important messages, instructions and tutors prepare them for the day ahead. • It is also a time when the pastoral team and the house team can see students for extra help and support.

  17. Extended Learning at CNS Students at CNS will progress through the key stages developing a range of skills which will continue to develop them as independent learners, confident, able and motivated to continue learning into adult life.

Why Extended Learning is important. • Students learn…. • Research skills – both online and hard copy resources utilised • • Investigation techniques • • Memory skills • • The ability to draft and revise work in order to produce final copy extended • assignments or coursework- proof reading, editing skills of handwritten and • word-processed presentations and an understanding of plagiarism will be • developed. • • Planning and time management of tasks to build up a project or portfolio of • work • • Reading for enjoyment as well as information • • Practice techniques for improvement of key skills specific to a topic or area • within a programme of study – especially within practical subjects • • Revision techniques to consolidate learning for assessments and examination • success

  21. CNS Centenary celebrations began on 8th September 2010 Here are some dates for your diary – we hope you will be able to join us to help mark this important milestone for the school. Friday 3rd, December 2010 Centenary Dinner for ex students- at CNS - 6.45 for 7.30pm. Book a table with your friends and join us for the dinner of the century! Friday, 1st April 2011 Centenary Concert - 7.30pm to be performed by current and former pupils of CNS at St Andrew’s Hall (details to be announced later). If you think that you would like to take part in the concert please contact the secretary. Further details of these and other events planned for the Centenary Year will be posted on the school web-site – www.cns-school.org, or to find out more you can contact the secretary of CNSU – Thea Abbott – email address: thea@theas.co.uk
