2. VET @ BSSC BSSC is an RTO in its own right which means
..
Our 17 VET courses are run by: Teachers, Sessional TAFE teachers or Sessional Instructors who are:
Required to be registered by the VIT
Required to be Workplace Trainers & Assessors ( CERT IV)
May Require Auspicing agreements
School as an RTO complies with AQTF like any other TAFE
Delivered in the school: timetabled the same as other subjects. Eg. At BSSC 1x100 min class, 2x60 min class
3. Record Keeping AQTF requirements mandate much more detailed record keeping than teaching a VCE program does:
Attendance
Developing Training plans
Recording Completion of elements, Outcomes & Units of competence in the training plans, signatures & dates
Recording methods of assessment & dates of assessment
All required by the RTO before Certificates or Statements of Attainment can be issued for the training
4. VET Coordinators Job Help to secure staffing for VET classes
Induct new staff to AQTF & VET responsibilities
Arrange then negotiate & monitor contracts for external delivery of VET
Budget
Time
Assessment
Work placements
Transport of students
Arrange then negotiate & monitor contracts for auspiced delivery of VET.
Responsibility for AQTF standards and audits as school is an RTO
Grievance issues
Marketing
Budget
5. Outdoor Recreation BSSC delivers both Outdoor Recreation and Community Recreation and Fitness
Currently running both Outdoor Recreation Courses. (I teach both)
Team teaching/sharing and developing resources for core competencies together - but with course specific examples
6. Outdoor Recreation My course:
Core and Stream Core Modules
Specialization clusters:
Demonstrate simple climbing skills on natural surfaces
Demonstrate simple canoeing skills
Electives:
Demonstrate simple bushwalking skills in tracked or easy untracked areas
Navigate in easy tracked or untracked areas
Use and maintain a temporary overnight sight
Ski tour in a patrolled environment to a basic standard
Maintain equipment for activities
7. Module selection Chose similar modules to old course to minimise amount of work in writing new modules
Trips already up and running
Other modules relate directly to outdoor rec/ed. and help students become more aware of their surroundings and how to look after their gear
8. Trips Currently running 4 trips in year 11 and 3 at year 12 level.
Trips are compulsory students made aware of this prior to enrolling
Trips for each year are similar so if students miss a trip due to ill-health can sometimes go with the other year level
9. Work Placement Students have to do 40 hrs of industry specific work placement each year
Availability issues for Bendigo students vs. places available in the immediate area
Students need to be organised and come up with ideas for where theyd like to be we then help place them.
Tie core modules to placement evaluation sheets/logbook for employers to fill out.
