Interactions of Human Body Systems for Organism Needs

This lesson plan explores how cell structures, tissues, organs, and organ systems interact to meet the basic needs of organisms. Students will develop a conceptual model of cell organization and construct arguments on how body systems interact. Activities include vocabulary introduction, ecological parts identification, and a vocabulary quiz.

  1. 7th Science Lesson Plans 02/4/2019

  2. Standard: •  S7L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to describe how cell structures, cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems interact to maintain the basic needs of organisms.  Unit Essential Questions How do human body systems interact with one another to provide for the needs of the human organism?

  3. Standard: • b. Develop and use a conceptual model of how cells are organized into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into systems, and systems into organisms.  • c. Construct an argument that systems of the body (Cardiovascular, Excretory, Digestive, Respiratory, Muscular, Nervous, and Immune) interact with one another to carry out life processes. • Why is the immune system important • What happens to you when your immune system does not work.

  4. Activity: • Monday – Introduce vocabulary • Tuesday - Introduce new vocab, Digitalppt on organization, From species to ecosystem  • Mango trees  • Wednesday - Identify ecological parts-  • Thursday - Vocab-Review Sheet Abiotic, biotic, Organism-population  Community and ecosystem  Friday - Quiz

  5. vocabulary • cardiovascular system • cell • digestive system • excretory system • immune system • muscular system • nervous system • organ • organ system • respiratory system • tissue  • macroinvertebrates

  6. I can statement • I can state the function of each organ system and explain how they work together to carry out life processes.  • I can state the function of each organ system and explain how they work together to carry out life processes. • I can explain how cells form tissues, tissues form organs, organs form organ systems, and systems form an organism.

  7. Class Work Warm Up – Discuss Cells Tissues and Organs Monday: Define Vocabulary Words Tuesday: Wednesday: Peer Helper(Group Work) Thursday: One on One (Review)/Study Guide Friday: Quiz Feedback on Quiz Redelivery

  8. Science Resources • StudyJams • BrainPop • PBS Learning MediaPBSLearningMedia developed in partnership with the WGBH Educational Foundation offers content for science, math, engineering and technology, and other subjects at various grade levels • Virtual Clinical TrialsDeveloped with NIH support, these web simulation models expose high school students to scientific and biomedical engineering practices and careers. Free, online simulations engage students in technology while designing authentic neuroscience-based clinical trials using real-world examples.  • STEMisphereA collection of strategies, ideas, and resources from the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. • EdHeadsExternal link – Please review our disclaimerEdheads is an online educational resource that provides free science and math games and activities that promote critical thinking.
