What is Flexible Thinking and How Can You promote It in Children

The ability to modify our thinking and behavior in reaction to the events around us is referred to as cognitive flexibility or flexible thinking. Flexible thinking is required when students are asked to adapt their approach to solving a problem or think about many concepts at the same time. Executive functioning encompasses the mental processes that allow one to focus attention, plan, and remember instructions while executing many tasks at the same time. 2. The ability to modify our thinking and behaviour in reaction to the events around us is referred to as cognitive flexibility or flexible thinking. Flexible thinking is required when students are asked to adapt their approach to solving a problem or think about many concepts at the same time. Executive functioning encompasses the mental processes that allow one to focus attention, plan, and remember instructions while executing many tasks at the same time. Flexible thinking is a key part of executive functioning. • Does it appear to be difficult? In a few words – • Flexible thinking enables Montessori going children to think on their feet and see things in new ways. • It allows for the "unlearning" of old habits to make room for new ones. • It is a crucial skill for learning, both academically and in everyday life.

  3. Different ways to promote flexible thinking in kids: Mindful exercises and practices can go a long way toward fostering flexible thinking. When learning is done in a fun way, kids are more efficient. To assist your child, move away from rigid thinking and toward a more flexible approach to coping with problems, try these tactics. Encourage kids to go with the flow. When life throws you a curveball in the middle of a moment or a day, keep your cool, stay calm, and actively embrace the shift. Encourage your kids to be open-minded and accept the situation. Sometimes things may not work according to their plan or wish; in such cases, they must think of a plan B and move on.

  4. Ensure children consume a nutritious diet According to the doctors of San Dimas, CA a diet rich in essential nutrients, in addition to other mindful, practices, will support your efforts to foster your child's flexible thinking. Spend time in nature Nature is calming and energising at the same time. It is ever-changing and surprising, presenting a variety of sights, sounds, sensations, and odours. This is ideal since it gives your youngster a variety of opportunities to shift his concentration and develop his cognitive flexibility. In an indoor setting, such opportunities are uncommon.

  5. Change the rules of the game to make it more interesting. Preschool teachers challenge kids to create or build their own board/card game with their own set of rules. They can even build up their own rules for a game that already exists. Such games are entertaining and demanding for everyone who participates in them. This practice is effective because it teaches your youngster how to change his or her behaviour. Your child will undoubtedly be ecstatic and eager to think more creatively. Experiment with new things You and your youngster can try something new that neither of you has done before. You could, for example, play a new sport, try new cuisines, or listen to a new kind of music together.
