  2. Actions and consequences are universal and preschoolers can understand that both are related to each other as every action has its consequence. Montessori teachers allow kids to experience both natural and logical consequences as an important tool to teach them discipline and responsibility. However, in many cases, parents find themselves at a loss of ideas in the heat of the moment and miss the opportunities to discipline their kids. Here we will guide you through all you need to know about disciplining your kids using natural and logical consequences in early childhood.

  3. Natural and Logical Consequences: The natural consequence is the inevitable result that follows some actions of your kids without any interference from your side. For example, your kids refuse to wear jackets in winter after repeated warnings from your side and catch cough and cold. Eventually, natural consequences come as fallout of not doing something or doing something in the wrong way. On the other hand, the logical consequence is something that you impose on your kids as a disciplinary measure when they do not follow certain rules or behaves inappropriately. For example, if they play with a cricket inside the house despite the strict rule against it and end up breaking something. As a logical consequence, you can confiscate their bat and ball for the next three days.

  4. In Pomona, CA playschools, teachers use this natural and logical consequence strategy to reinforce good behavior and discipline in children as this strategy comes with many benefits. They are: • Logical consequences are better options as a rule in most cases when it comes to your children’s safety and security. • Using consequences is an effective method to separate the child from his behavioral problems or bad decisions. • There is no penalty, assessing, or humiliating related to consequences. It is like they are making some selections and that comes with some results. Moreover, it also takes away yelling, anger out of the equation.

  5. How Can Parents Use Logical and Natural Consequences at Home? • Consequences are the powerful and wonderful replacement to traditional disciplining methods. • Here you can find the ways of using its benefits to the fullest: • You do not have to repeat the warnings or punishments. • Keep on reminding kids about the consequences of their choices. • Try to stay firm and consistent. • Think of some logical consequence that would fir their behavior. • Do not nag about any past incident. • Whenever possible, allow your kids to decide the consequence.

  6. When Natural and Logical Consequence Should Not be Used: • While natural and logical consequences work quite well most of the time, there are times when serious misbehavior requires a higher level of intervention by the Preschool teachers and parents. They are: • When your kids have deeply hurt someone and continue to do so. • When kids refuse to do their homework or display anxiety. • When their physical safety is more important. • When the kids have physically harmed a friend or damaged someone’s property.
