NIMS provides a consistent, nationwide approach to incident management, supporting first responders through standardized processes, procedures, and systems. It includes components like command and management, resource management, and communications. FY 2005 marked the start of NIMS compliance requirements, with subsequent years mandating full implementation. Formal recognition requires adopting NIMS principles and policies through legislation or executive orders. Establishing a NIMS baseline involves identifying gaps and developing strategies for improvement.
