  1. Elizabeth Bennet and Caroline Bingley Two girls. One man. Misunderstanding prevails.

  2. Caroline Bingley

  3. What’s she like? • Horrible. The most hated person of all time—especially in that book. • Selfish, superficial, and self-centered. Proud and conceited. She is beautiful, and was finely educated in a prestigious school. Rich. Located in the upper range of a social hierarchy. • Good reputation and upper-class.

  4. She and Mr. Darcy • Meets with Darcy’s class prejudice, but fails to be with par with his honor and virtue. • Continuously tries to win his affections. • Jealous of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. • Prevents their marriage by ridiculing the poor manners of Lizzy’s family. • Jealous of Mr. Bingley and Jane. • Is implied that she helped separate Bingley and Jane.

  5. Family Tree Charles Bingley Caroline Bingley Louisa Bingley Mr Hurst

  6. Her role • Hate. Disapproval. • Good example of Pride and Prejudice…

  7. Her role • Mr Bingleys younger sister, but is not at all like him. • Caroline wants everyone to see her as proper and important • Caroline uses people to get what she wants and is very hypocritical

  8. Elizabeth Bennet ‘Lizzy’

  9. What’s she like? • Very big on personal qualities. • Her eyes are very important, for reasons behind the text. • Takes pride in her abilities to perceive the truth. • Judges people harshly. • These qualities and ethics end up ‘failing’ her.

  10. Family Tree • Eliza  People like Caroline Bingley and upper class people, for it was meant to be a fashionable name. • Lizzy  Closer family and friends.

  11. Her role • …To present the realistic side of the novel (how it relates to the society). (?) • None of the characters are quite finished turning into adults, yet.
