  3. SQUAM: Daily Global Stats of VIIRS SST - OSTIA 2012/2/10 2012/5/22-25 2013/3/18-20 2012/12/17-19 2012/9/10-12 Initial large spike in global mean biases in Feb 2012. After code fixes, SST spikes reduced to ~0.2-0.3K. NB: These are daily global statistics. Local spikes are likely larger (no special analysis done). SST Mean Bias wrt. Reference SST Large spike in global Std Dev Feb 2012. After code fixes, SST spikes not seen. SST Std Dev wrt. Reference SST WUCD effects on SSTs and BTs

MICROS: VIIRS SST - Reynolds 2013/3/18-20 2012/12/17-19 2012/9/10-12 2012/5/22-25 SQUAM observations are consistent with MICROS (where SST is also monitored but only wrt Reynolds): Effect of WUCD on global SST mean biases is ~0.2-0.3K. NB: These are again daily global statistics. Local spikes may be larger (but no special analysis was done). WUCD effects on SSTs and BTs

  5. MICROS:Double Diff. VIIRS IR11 BT ; ref: Metop-A 2013/3/18-20 2012/9/10-12 2012/12/17-19 2012/5/22-25 However, major objective of MICROS is to monitor BTs. Effect of WUCD on global BT mean biases is ~0.1K. These are again daily global statistics. Local spikes may be larger (but no special analysis was done). WUCD effects on SSTs and BTs

  6. Observations • WUCD appears to continue affecting global BT mean biases with an amplitude of ~0.1K • In SST, these artifacts are amplified, due to the nature of SST regression equation, to 0.2-0.3K • These are global daily statistics. Local effects maybe larger but separate analysis is needed WUCD effects on SSTs and BTs
