  2. Dreams • Community can encourage or discourage dreams. • Alexei seems to suggest that the health of a community can influence our dreams, for the better or for the worse • The loss of dreams in Part Time Indian can affect happiness.

  3. Self Esteem • The theme of self esteem is shown though Alexei’s remarks about himself, his put downs aimed at himself • What kind of remarks? Find an adjective that specifically addresses his self-esteem.

  4. Self esteem • The theme of self esteem is shown through Arnold’s negative comments about himself. • Alexie suggests that the way in which people are treated affects their self-esteem.

  5. The theme of hope is shown through Arnold’s decision to transfer to Reardon.

  6. Power of art • The theme of the power of art gives Junior his own world where he is able to express himself: “I use art to understand the world.” • Quote is good but don’t include in topic sentence

  9. The power of education allows people to pursue their dreams. Junior’s opportunity to pursue a better education will allow him to follow his dream for a better life.
