  • A marsupial is an animal that that has a pouch. The mother carries their babies in these pouches.
  • Some of the animals we are going to look at are marsupials, some of them aren’t.

  • Koalas have sharp fingernails that helps them climb trees.
  • They have large noses that are coloured pink or black.
  • Koalas eat leaves called eucalyptus leaves and nothing else.
  • Koalas are marsupials.

  • Kangaroos can hop around quickly on two legs or walk slowly on all four legs.
  • Most kangaroos eat grass.
  • Kangaroos usually live to about 6 years old.
  • Kangaroos are marsupials.

Duck Billed Platypus
  • A Duck Billed Platypus has a beak like a duck and a tail like a beaver.
  • It lives by rivers and lakes.
  • It sleeps most of the day and comes out to feed at night.

  • Snakes are covered in scales that are smooth and dry.
  • Snakes hibernate during the winter in places like burrows, under rocks or inside fallen trees.
  • Snakes eat small animals like lizards, birds, mice and rats.

  • Dingoes are wild dogs.
  • They live in forests or grassland, usually in the outback.
  • They eat anything from kangaroos to rabbits to birds.
  • They usually live about 10 years.

  • The wallaby is similar to the kangaroo but smaller.
  • Wallabies live in forests or wooded areas.
  • Wallabies eat leaves and grass – they are herbivores.
  • The wallaby is a marsupial.

  • Possums are nocturnal – they only come out at night.
  • Possums find food in the bins of humans.
  • They live in holes in trees as they are excellent climbers.
  • Possums have 50 teeth, more than any other mammal.
  • Possums are marsupials.

  • They have long necks and long legs and grow to between 5 foot to 6.5 foot – similar to humans.
  • Emus eat berries, flowers and insects.
  • Emus are extremely fast, they can sprint at speeds up to 50 km/hr

  • Wombats are herbivores eating mainly roots of trees.
  • They have very strong jaws to tear the roots.
  • They live in forests and woodlands.
  • They are marsupials.
