  2. Priority Actions – Children Preventive pack & weaning cup from Health Visitor before first birthday Preventive packs to all nursery & P1 children every year Supervised toothbrushing schemes in all nurseries and in identified P1 & P2 classes (20% of those in most dental need)

Priority Actions – Children • National Dental Inspection Programme (NDIP) in place • All schools supporting and implementing healthy eating & drinking policies as part of the Diet Action Programme • All secondary schools to have oral health as part of holistic health promotion programmes for teenagers

National ToothbrushingScheme Nurseries 369 nurseries across Grampian Nurseries now toothbrushing (end of Aug 09) – 325 (88%) Total of 11,000 children brushing every day Nurseries able to start – 44 Nurseries unable to implement - 10 Primaries 53 schools identified in Grampian 58 toothbrushing with P1 & P2 (some whole school) 2,745 children brushing everyday

  5. Childsmile Nursery & School Aimed at children aged 3 and upwards who are at increased risk of dental decay. Will target nurseries in areas with highest levels of deprivation and primaries inspected as part of national dental inspection programme. Twice yearly application of fluoride varnish by Childsmile dental teams in nursery and school. Delivery of oral health promotion and health education messages.

  6. Childsmile Practice Promotes oral health from birth and targets families with young children. All newborn children are offered opportunity to join the programme Referral into programme by health visitor and linked to dental health support worker. Linked to family friendly practice for regular oral health promotion and clinical prevention services.

  7. Improving Oral Health for Adults A free dental check for all adults from 2007 onwards Adults aged 60+ offered a free oral health examination from 2005 onwards Improve registration levels for 65-74yr olds and aged 75 yrs & over

  8. Improving Oral Health for Adults Development of oral health programmes for: Healthy Working Lives to promote workplace oral health Adults in most need e.g. prisoners & the homeless Care homes Older people with social needs

  9. Special Needs Groups Including: • Looked after children, care homes, adult day centres, pregnant women, drug users, homeless, special needs schools, prisoners Improve: • Access to dental services • Consistency of oral health messages Implement: • Tooth brushing programmes – groups & individual • Training for staff/carers who work/live with groups

  10. Target (by 2010) • 60% of 5 year old school entrants should have no cavities, fillings or extractions.
