Grading Process Grading is done over 3 stages: • When kiln dried raw material arrives to factory • After the boards are split, through cut etc just before the thermo treatment phase • Final grading is after thermo-treatment and after profiling (planning). This is when the “face” of the board is choosen. Thermory Pine

  4. Visual Grading Rules for Thermory Pine • FACE • Graded face - Smooth, without visible mechanical damage from tools. No Hit & Miss allowed • Ungraded face - Cutting marks max 2mm width allowed • KNOTS • Bark ringed knot - Allowed 5 knots within 2 metres. Maxium knot size is 20% of piece’s width • Black & Dead fixed knots - Allowed, at face area maximum size 20% of piece’s width, at edges maximum size 50% of piece’s thickness • Broken knot - Allowed when breakage is invisible after installation. Small cracks inside healthy knots are allowed • Edge and Arris knot - Allowed in all sizes, when solid • Knot cluster - Allowed, when knots’ within cluster are solid • Loose knot and hole - Not allowed, if loose knot or hole is visible in usage • Pin knots - Sound < 10mm are allowed • Rotten knot - Not allowed • Sound knot size - Solid sound knots allowed max. ½ of the width • Splay knot - Sound knot rules apply to sound splay knots Impregnated Pine

  5. Visual Grading Rules continued • OTHER CHARACTERISTICS • Bark pocket and Scar - 1 bark pocket and scar (L 120mm x W 20mm) within 2 metres. Must be solid on top. • Heart wood and Heart - Allowed, heart is a natural quality for sawn heart wood pine • Insect holes - Not allowed • Mould - Not allowed • Resin pocket - 3 resin pockets (W 10mm x L 50mm) allowed within 2 metres • Rot / decay - Not allowed • Shake / Surface crack - Shallow and short allowed. Through and ring shake not allowed. Continuous cracks not allowed. Maximum area of breakage is 50sqmm. • Top rupture - Allowed, maximum 50% out of piece’s width • Wane - Not allowed • Cup - Allowed 2% of piece’s width within 2 metres • Twist - Allowed 10% of piece’s width within 2 metres. Permitted as long as the board can easily be mounted • Spring - Allowed 4 mm within 2 metres • Bow - Allowed 15 mm within 2 metres • A maximum of 3% of pieces within a pack can be of a lower quality than Natur. • THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS ARE NOT ALL OF THERMORY PINE.   27. Spring and Bow Spring:Allowed 4 mm within 2 meters. Bow:Allowed 15 mm within 2 meters. Spring Bow Thermory Pine
